Cristin,
I just got news, via Beryl, of your great loss. Twenty-five years ago I had to endure the same kind of formative experience that you are likely going through now. I can only state that, for myself, the sorrows for me and my young family (5 children) at the time were great ,but as I reflect NOW, they had their 'gifts' in terms of sentimentalities and understandings and new insights and beliefs that the events generated for all of us, collectively speaking. My wife Joyce's death was just a few days before Christmas in 1980.
What faith I had, carried me through some of the rough patches, but my chilxdren had deeper hurts to reconcile and accommodate within themselves (ages 17 through 24; three 'boys' & 2 'girls') . In the following years however, the 'changes wrought' in them (and me) helped compensate some for their loss, and those experiences and the developing understandings of theirs helped me immeasurably to regain, eventually, my interests and insights and understandings that propelled me into new stages of my new life -- which seemed to me at the time to be out of reach forever. The 'gains' were built out from 'sorrows'. But they inevitably found paths into me that filled me more and more with awe and ever more full love of ALL and ALLNESS.
My belief is that YOU will be able to 'handle' this great loss of yours as a path to even a finer life than you experienced before. You are a wise and loving woman and most important : FULL OF FAITH. Growing one's consciousness is the nature of the 'living game' as we are shaped and shape ourselves to understand ever more fully the GRANDEUR of deep thinking and feeling and appreciation. GRATEFULNESS. The spiritual powers that transform us into ever wiser and creative persons, are NOT secrets to you. You know -- deeply -- about them NOW.
If I can do anything to help, just let me know!
Most sincerely and with heart-felt sorrow for your pain full loss,
Dick
